A red trickster among pastel sparkles
The morning that held one of the most magical moments of my life
I thought they had left. But then, as we lay in bed, a chilling shriek filled the dark, quiet of the night. All three of them were perched on our hill, just below our bedroom window. After that I did not see them again. I figured they had new hunting grounds, after all a field with rodents can only sustain three hunting foxes for so long.
But then yesterday, through the frosty sparkles of the early morning, I saw a dark shadow dart across the white field. I quickly got dressed, poured my morning coffee into a thermos and ran out to the most magical experience.
I don’t remember the last time I felt so genuinely happy, ecstatic and where the experience, and my photos, gave me goosebumps. They still do. This morning will live with me for a long time.
To sit in the snow with my camera, sip on coffee and stare into the eyes of a beautiful fox, and watch it hunt, while nature bathed in pastel colors and shimmer… Wow. Nature does something truly special for me, and this morning really cemented what I have felt for a while.
I need to emply my skills within photography and content creation / management to work with and for nature. I have to. It’s my calling.
Last week I was reminded of how everything in nature is connected:
A colleague tells me they’ve read it’s a good winter for rodents: The start of the season was very warm and then we got a lot of snow that insulates them. Suddenly the reason why I’ve seen three foxes hunt out on the fields, in the deep snow, for 2 weeks straight makes a bit more sense. Everything in nature is intertwined, including us humans. Which is why we must care for it.
